Choose your own pollventure!

You should check out [personal profile] pollventures. I found it on a random search (for Ocean’s 8-tagged posts in Dreamwidth, of all things, during a pirate-themed adventures), and it’s a great community.

It’s Choose Your Own Adventure done via daily polls, and it’s a wild ride. Each poll chooses our course of actions and the next day’s events and poll.

We’re currently playing through Romeo and Juliet, but it has some...twists. I may be drawing on my background as an Italian-American former Catholic schoolgirl to vote in this set of polls? (Spoiler: I am DEFINITELY drawing on my background as an Italian-American former Catholic schoolgirl to vote in this set of polls.)

Definitely check it out. If you like it, you should participate! It’s presently a small group, but they welcomed me stumbling in and randomly starting to vote.

I believe we are currently deciding which boy Juliet should talk to first. I’m voting for the emo boy*, not the sports-obsessed boy. But if you would like to help decide: Swipe left?

*I was a former Catholic schoolgirl theater kid, not a cheerleader, and we went for the emo boys, let’s face it. (There is not anything wrong with being a cheerleader. I just wasn’t one.)

I'm not all doom and gloom, I swear

I am, however, ridiculously busy both at work and at home.

Also apparently all my notifications have been hitting my spam filter since about the start of the month for some annoying reason. Hopefully that won't continue.

If I missed anything, that's why! I probably missed a lot.

Useful Dreamwidth Stuff: Claim Your OpenID Comments

This morning, I ran into a lovely post about how to claim your OpenID comments on Dreamwidth, which basically updates your OpenID comments from other sources (like, for example, LJ imports) so that they come from your Dreamwidth account.

This is a new release and prone to being a little buggy. There's also no FAQ for it yet. On the plus side, you can claim your OpenID comments and merge them into your Dreamwidth account. (Should you wish to do so.) Also, it's irrevocable.

girlgay lj feed

For anyone on LJ who might be interested in following what's up on [community profile] girlgay, but who makes their primary home on LJ, I've created an LJ feed, [livejournal.com profile] girlgay, so you can see what's going on and click over if something catches your interest.

We're going to be starting up weekly femslash flashfic/other fanwork prompts in 2012, for anyone interested in that.

LJ and my fanfic

I've imported all my fanfic from [livejournal.com profile] havocs_cry to [dreamwidth.org profile] havocs_cry. Dreamwidth (at the above comm) and the AO3 (at [archiveofourown.org profile] havocthecat) are going to be my primary fanfic posting site from now on; I'll make sure to continue linking all my fic at [livejournal.com profile] havocs_cry and at [livejournal.com profile] havocthecat.

Given that LJ crashed about a minute before I started writing this post, I think it's about time. Not that I'm happy about it. But there you go.

Community imports!

Dreamwidth is finally able to import communities! That means I can move my fanfic over from [livejournal.com profile] havocs_cry to [community profile] havocs_cry. Or maybe to [personal profile] havocthecat. I''m not quite clear how that's going to work. But either way, I can get my fanfic - and the comments on it - backed up elsewhere.

(I still have a lot of stories to put up on [archiveofourown.org profile] havocthecat, but that's going to happen slowly. Glacially slowly.)

Also, I've been curious about Misfits. Anyone here watch it? Is it any good?

LJ's latest shenanigans.

What with all the rumors swirling about LJ's latest security problem, I've heard from a source who is very technically proficient (and whom I trust) that the best way to avoid the privacy issues is to log out of LJ, expire all one's active sessions, and to stay logged out until the privacy breach has been fixed. (Post on the matter.)

Dreamwidth invite codes. )

Mostly a knitting post.

Still getting tired easily. Which basically means I go home, make dinner, and collapse in bed for the night. I need to make Mr. Havoc start cooking again. Still lots of tv watching. Still lots of knitting. Still lots of fanfic reading.

This weekend's Costco-and-yarn-store trip was necessary and fun, but it wore me out for two days. Then yesterday's trip to get the oil changed and to go out to dinner and to the doctor's office did me in too. (The guy at the oil change place also refilled my a/c refrigerant under the table for "whatever I felt like giving him." It was more than a bottle would've cost at the auto supply store, but less than the $120 the place he worked at wanted to charge. Plus I built a good relationship with a guy at a place I go to for work. I'm good with this.)

Current project is a drop stitch scarf in various shades of green, which is fun and easy. The checkerboard mesh scarf that's complicated (for me) and made in sock yarn is still in progress, but it's set off to the side for now. I love the pattern, but I wanted something I could work on during my lunch break, and the drop stitch scarf is that. (I could also work on squares for the neverending Noro Kureyon mitered square afghan, but I wanted a break on working with Noro for a while.)

Drop stitch scarf picture is behind the cut. )

You can also see my folded-up printout of the pattern (I long for a tablet so I don't have to print my patterns), my steno pad for writing down notes at work, and my coffee mug. Mmm, coffee.

Turns out there's someone at a nearby farmers' market that spins her own yarn. It's an hour or so away, by Mom and Dad's place. I'm going to have to make a point to go and meet her, though. Mom says the yarn is gorgeous.

For those of you that don't follow [site community profile] dw_dev but want to know about Dreamwidth's upcoming projects, you may want to check out Ten major features wanted: a tour. The list of features they're looking for people to work on is amazing. The person who implements #2 on the list (social bookmarking a la delicious) will earn themselves a seed account.

I also love the idea of crossposting to Tumblr or exporting my DW as a .pdf file. Especially the last, because I started keeping a paper journal when I was 7; I want to be able to print out the full contents of my electronic journal for archival purposes as well.

On that note, I'm going to go and get some work done before I start skimming my way through the [community profile] femslash11 offerings.

Just a litte FYI about my journal.

I crosspost to Dreamwidth, LiveJournal, and InsaneJournal, and answer comments at all three places (though no one ever really comments at IJ). If you have access on one spot and not the other, please let me know so I can make sure you can read the same posts across all journaling sites. The commenters and comments end up being different on both LJ and DW.

Dreamwidth

I know that LJ has been having problems through no fault of their own. I also know that having a backup journaling site isn't always a bad idea. I, like many other people, have Dreamwidth invite codes for anyone who wants one.

If you're really horribly upset by my posting about what I want on my own journal, you may feel free to scroll on by. Five lines of text aren't too much of an imposition, are they?

The Vampire Diaries, tv show catch-up, RL is dumb, LJ, all kinds of things.

First of all, LJ's going to be down for a while. Today. From 7 - 9 PM EST. Which means that, while you're unable to access LJ, you can find me at Dreamwidth! And Twitter. And InsaneJournal. But mostly at Dreamwidth. (I have invite codes. You want one?) You don't even need a Dreamwidth account to comment; all you have to do is use your LJ account as an OpenID login.

Okay, right, so I nearly made a really bitchy post about last night's TVD, because I thought for sure that spoilers )

So, the thing about TVD is that there are all kinds of awesome women from so many different eras of history, and they keep killing them off. Is there anyone who might be up for a "fuck you she's awesome" type of fic exchange for the women of TVD? One that would, I hope, include equal amounts of fic of the white women and of all the women of color. (Also with a side order of encouraging the inclusion of men of color in those fics, because men of color are also seriously under-served by the series.)

Yes, I know, I need to work on space pirates. But I feel the need for a plethora of fic about the women of TVD. I can do both!

Talking about the Salvatore family and their supposed Italianess may, in fact, bore most of you. )

Oh, God, I'm nitpicking TVD from an Italian-American perspective; I think this means I need more sleep. Wait, I know I need more sleep, never mind.

Actually, I know I need more sleep. I was tossing and turning all last night, because I was getting all kinds of nightmares. Anyone remember that old G.I. Joe cartoon episode where everyone was getting chronic nightmares and only Snake Eyes could function because he was ALWAYS getting nightmares? And everyone was surprised that he could function because nightmares all the time would suck?

Yeah, THAT'S MY LIFE, and I've lost my knack for lucid dreaming because I stopped having the time or energy to keep a dream journal when I had the kidlet.

I have work to get that back so I can figure out a way out of gross stuff )

I think this is why I like horror so much. Most of the time, it does not compare to what my own brain throws at me, so horror films kind of a comfort. I need more coffee. I got very little rest last night, for obvious reasons. Plus I have a new dream journal. I think this will help.

Mr. Havoc and I are semi-caught up on Life on Mars, which we've been watching on PBS, but we've been getting the DVDs off Netflix, in order to catch the entire episode, not just the hacked up PBS version. OH, ANNIE. I love her so. But we need to finish up with that soon, because I desperately want to watch Ashes to Ashes, which has a female lead.

We're also on the last DVD of season two of Fringe, so I'll be able to catch up on season three soon. I suspect that Peter is going to do some very dumb things soon, and I will want to smack some sense back into him. Also, do not break up Peter and Olivia's partnership, show, please? They're so awesome together!

Please don't spoil me, though. And now to go and catch up on all the email I didn't look at the past day or so.
